Authorised claim
Creatine increases physical performance in
successive bursts of short-term, high-intensity exercise. This is an authorised health claim under EU
regulation, and it is the full extent of what may legitimately be claimed. Not muscle growth, not fat
reduction, not cognitive performance.
Assessment
- Monohydrate is the plain, well-documented form. More expensive variants offer no established advantage.
- At this price point, cost is not a meaningful factor in the decision.
- The taste is unremarkable. That has not prevented daily use.
- You will not feel this the way you feel caffeine. Creatine acts on output, not on sensation — which is precisely why it is the one product here with an authorised performance claim behind it rather than a promise.

Authorised claims
Magnesium contributes to normal muscle
function, to normal energy-yielding metabolism, and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. These
are authorised claims under EU regulation.
Assessment
- Capsule form avoids the taste question entirely, which matters if you are already taking powdered supplements.
- Bisglycinate is the form people actually keep taking. Oxide looks cheaper per milligram until you count the tub that gets abandoned half full.
- 194 mg is roughly half the daily reference intake, so this supplements a normal diet rather than replacing dietary intake.

Assessment
- Concentrate rather than isolate. The difference is relevant primarily for those with lactose intolerance; otherwise isolate is an unnecessary premium.
- The stated 5 g of BCAAs is not an added ingredient — those amino acids are inherent to whey protein. Treat it as a description, not a feature.
- Nutritionally this is the same protein you would get from chicken, eggs or quark. What you are paying for is the minute it takes to prepare — on the days where the honest alternative is skipping the protein altogether.

Note on variants before ordering. The product linked here is the Xbox version. Corsair
offers several HS80 MAX configurations and wireless compatibility differs between them. Confirm
which platform you require, as an incompatible dongle is the most common complaint across this
model range.
Assessment
- Comfort over extended periods is the decisive criterion for a headset worn all day, and this model performs well on it.
- Dual connectivity allows the computer to remain on the dongle while a phone connects via Bluetooth.
- At this price the purchase is primarily about comfort and convenience. Wired alternatives deliver comparable audio quality for considerably less.
- iCUE is an additional resident application required for configuration.

Evidence and regulatory position
- Skin — the most substantial area. Randomised trials report modest improvements in hydration and elasticity.
- Nails — some supporting data, from smaller studies.
- Joints and connective tissue — mixed results across trials.
- Hair — the least supported of the four.
- On the vitamin C — collagen itself carries no authorised EU health claim. Vitamin C does: it contributes to normal collagen formation. This is why vitamin C is included in nearly all products of this type, and the claim on the packaging refers to the vitamin.
Assessment
- Studies demonstrating an effect run over months. Assess a container over a full period rather than over a fortnight.
- Collagen is an incomplete protein and should not be counted toward daily protein intake.

performs that function reliably, and the chocolate peanut butter flavour is agreeable at this serving
size.

How I use it: half servings. Half a measure combined with a banana, a handful of walnuts and
half an avocado produces a comparable calorie load with the addition of fats, fibre and
micronutrients. A half serving is also considerably easier to drink than a full one, and the
container lasts twice as long.
Assessment
- It addresses the stated purpose. Where appetite limits intake, liquid calories are effective, and 50 g of protein is included.
- Powder does not spoil, unlike fresh ingredients bought in advance.
- Preparation takes under a minute, which is the relevant advantage on a full day.

What you are actually buying. Two of the six carry officially authorised claims in the EU — the creatine and the magnesium. The other four earn their place on practicality: protein ready in under a minute, calories that keep for months, a headset that survives a full working day. Both are sound reasons to spend money. Neither is what the packaging usually promises, which is why this page tells you which is which.
